Nanay

The above picture is of our Nanay and my eldest nephew, Isaiah.

... and below is a tribute to our Nanay ... our Grandmother.

We knew her as Nanay, the mother whose unconditional love and selfless
devotion shaped the lives of 6 sons, 5 daughters, 17 grandchildren and
5 great-grandchildren. She was our biggest supporter, our gentlest
comforter, our staunchest ally -- the light and center of our world.

Victoria, while always a mother, was also many things to many people:
A devoted wife and loyal companion to our father Marcelo for 65 years;
a dutiful and loving daughter; a kind and generous sister and aunt; a
good neighbor and friend; a Christian woman in the truest, purest
sense.

Everyone remembers Nanay's spunk and style, her humility, the
childlike attitude that allowed her to smile, giggle and dance her way
through life. She survived war and want, the early death of her
parents and her 2 infant children, her own health issues, the
transition to life here in the States, the death of 3 of her sisters,
and eventually, that of her beloved husband 7 years ago.

One particular incident we wish to share with everyone was when she
accompanied one of our sisters to buy a wedding veil. They were
catching a jeepney, Manila's means of public transportation. Always
the protective mother, she let her daughter go in first. She was
still trying to hop in when the jeepney started rolling away, dragging
Nanay a half mile. She was that kind of a mother, the one willing to
lay down her life for her child.

Nanay faced life's adversities with her quiet strength, her
unshakeable faith, and her bottomless compassion. She never
complained, never let bitterness take root in her heart. Instead, she
chose to always give, always forgive, always understand. These very
qualities are now part of her legacy to us. Our Nanay raised a family
that stands by each other, that has always taken care of its own.

Victoria's legacy has ensured the flourishing of the Mangalindan clan,
and future generations will be told the story of Nanay, the adored
mother and grandmother, shaper of lives and destinies.

Not Yet Settled.

We've officially been living in our new home for a few months now ... but there's still so much to unpack and clean-up!

I admire those women who work full-time and yet still have time to raise a family ... AND take care of their husband!

Right now, in the past 2 hours ... I just finished putting dinner on the table (waiting for JC to come home), paid some bills, doing laundry, got the guys ready after their work, and unpack some boxes ... man, I'm beat! I think I may have overdid it b/c now my lower back hurts. But goodness! There's still so much to be done yet!

I'm thankful that we don't have much furniture, b/c then that means just more to clean!

I'm hoping that in the next week or two, I'll have some sort of routine down packed ...

Well, I guess break time is over ... back to work I go!

First Week Back.

Well, this was my first week back at school.

Oh joy!

It was tons of fun.

In case you didn't hear the sarcasm in my voice, i was being sarcastic. Okay, actually it wasn't that bad. I think I just want a break. I basically went to school full-time non-stop (including spring&summer) since last September ... so it would be nice to have a nice break. But oh well.

My classes are okay ... so far. So I can't complain. I just wonder if I'm going to be able to lug around my backpack plus my extra weight for the baby ;)

An Update.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, but here's a quickie for you.

New York
-We went on a family vacation to NY for a week where we took in the sights and enjoyed all the food and scenery. I haven't been there for almost 10 years ... so it's amazing to see the changes and the excitement and vibe of NYC.

Passing of a Good Friend
- Our friend Brian passed away while we were in NY. It's very difficult for me to put into words how sad we all feel, but yet so blessed to have known Brian. Brian truly was a mentor, best friend, and hero to so many people. He is so missed so much.

Baby
- On the weekend, JC felt the baby kick for the first time. Oh my lanta, it was an amazing moment ...

School
- Well, school starts up this week ... oh joy. I dropped 2 of my classes ... so although i am still going full-time, hopefully it will not be as difficult. However, come January, I think I'll take 1-2 on-line courses to give myself a break.

Birthday
- I almost forgot! :) Thanks to everyone who called, emailed, and left messages on facebook. Yes, I am 30 now. Yikes! I still remember when I first turned 10 years old ... goodness ... time flies.
- My birthday was pretty low-key as we were busy with other things, but maybe JC and I can sneak off for a date night sometime soon.

Anyways, that's my quickie. Gotta run!
