It's funny how everytime before a trip ... we get so busy.
I find myself running around like a chicken with it's head cut off ... running in all different directions trying to get everything done before we leave ...
I have this anxious feeling of getting all that I need to do not just for work but for home too. And the kicker is that when I get back from Cali I go to school the following day ... yikes! So I totally forgot to buy binders and a couple supplies ... and there I was at Superstore buying school supplies again ... gosh, last time I bought school supplies was ages ago !
Well, guess I should get back to work ... off I go again !

Well, only a handful of sleeps and the Canadian and New Jersey Mangalindan's are on their way to the land of Mangalindan's ...
After much emailing and calling ... and going back and forth - my husband, my cousin and i have finalized our plans and we'll all be meeting in San Fran next week.
I've been talking to my Ninang's and my cousins ... and we're all so excited to be reunited again ... talk about another big family reunion ... the great thing is that we won't have to wait long to do this again b/c the following year it will be Clint and Kim's turn !!! Woo-Hoo.
JC and I will be staying our first few days in San Fran ... soaking it all in since it will be our first time really experiencing the San Fran life ... after that it's all family time. I just can't wait !!
Imagine ... 11 brothers and sisters ... 18 cousins ... 2 great-grandchildren ... spouses/significant others ... it's going to be one big party !!!!

I'm leaving on a jet plane ... soon !!!
I'm going to Cali for my cousin, Ate Yvette's wedding in Sonoma Valley. I'm so excited b/c I didn't get to spend much time with my family during my wedding and Kuya's as we were all quite busy. So this time, I'm gonna party !!!!
My Tito Lito once said at Ate Mylene's wedding, "I want a wedding one every year" ... well, there's 18 cousins so that would've been quite the expense every year! But even though Tito Lito had to wait a bit after Ate My's wedding ... here's the list ... so far:
2001 (?): Ate Mylene & Hutch
2004: JC and Kim
2004: Kuya and Darleen
2005: Ate Yvette and Mike
2006: Clint and Kim
2007: .... who's next ?!?!?!?!
I've been talking to my cousins and my Ninang's and everyone's super excited. Some of my cousins are taking some time off for the big event and are planning on partying from the moment the Canadian and New Jersey families arrive.
JC and I will be staying in San Fran for a couple days, then to the home of Santa Clara for 1 night, out to Sonoma Valley for the weekend, and off to San Fran for another couple days before we head home.
I'm too excited ... I can't wait !!!!

This term ... "Filipino Time" ... has never really made any sense to me. I don't understand why some people are always late. For parties and social events ... I can understand as the party doesn't usually start swinging until later ... but for big events ?!?!!?
In Surrey, the past few years I've noticed that on wedding invitations - the bride and groom write on the invitation a 1/2 an hour earlier than the actual wedding time. This is so that people would show up on time ... well, before my wedding ... people would come up to me and say "is it really at 1:00? or is it at 1:30 and you just wrote on your invitation 1:00?" I would tell people the truth, "I'm not going to cater the wedding around people who seem to show up late ... the wedding is at 1:00 ... and if people are late - then they miss it ... too bad" - my parents weren't too happy with me when I would say that - but it's the truth and I felt quite strongly about it. To me, I felt that if you really wanted to be at the wedding - you'd be there on time, and if you are late then I'm sorry you miss part of it. Now, don't get me wrong, I can totally understand if there's a legit reason for a person being late but poor planning doesn't cut it for me.
For example, I'm quite the stickler for being on time when I'm going or giving an interview. When I'm the one being interviewed - I arrive at my destination about 1/2 an hour early (just to make sure I don't get lost finding the place) but I don't actually go into the office until 15 minutes before the scheduled time, and I dress appropriately. Now, here's a pet peeve of mine ... when I give an interview ... I absolutely hate it when the person arrives late. I'm never rude to the person, but I kindly ask them what happened b/c our interview was at so-and-so time. In my mind - I think that if you're going to be late to something as important as an interview (remember your not even hired yet - you still have to make a good impression - and being late doesn't cut it) - what makes me think that you will be on time at work? GRRRR !!! What a pet peeve of mine.
So basically what's my point to this blog? Try not to fall into the "Filipino Time" ... although it's a common joke around us ... it really puts an impression on the person if they are always late. Just my thoughts ...

(0) commentsI'm the kind of person that sees things either black or white ... nothing in between ... nothing gray. It's either right or wrong ...
I see all situations either black or white ... I don't see any gray areas ... this sometimes puts me in tough spot b/c I'm a stickler for rules. This is also quite difficult for me when it comes to my work (past and present). I'm not one to see the gray areas ... it's either right or wrong. If I have to be the one to see or perform a "gray" area - to be honest, I don't. If I feel something is wrong, I'd get my supervisor to sign off on it or for him/her to do it themselves. This way, I know that I followed policy and procedures ... and my conscience is clear.
I don't know why I'm either one or the other ... sometimes I wish I could see the "gray" areas in life. But to me everything is either ... right or wrong. Maybe it's part of the way I was raised by my parents and Kuya ... it's either yes or no ... right or wrong. There was never a "gray" area when growing up.
Even lying is a difficult thing for me. I know that it's wrong, so in all honestly I try my hardest not to do it. Even if it's a well meaning lie - such as helping a person out by lying, I can't do it and to be honest, I won't. I will find another way in helping them out without me lying. Sometimes when I talk to people it seems like it's okay to lie if it means helping another person ... I guess that's where that particular situation falls into the "gray" area. Umnn ...
I guess this says a lot about my personality ... but that's who I am ... a person that sees things either right or wrong - no in betweens ... and that I can't lie ;)

Today I picked up some of my school books ... and got my student id card ...
Yes, I wrote "school books" ... this woman is going back to school ... woo-hoo!!
I'm very excited and very thankful that I was accepted into the Bachelor of Applied Child Studies program at Mount Royal. At first I wasn't very hopeful (but my husband was ... how supportive, huh?) ... there were very limited seats available in the program ... so imagine my surprise when I received an acceptance letter back in the spring. I was also so thankful b/c the first time I applied for a similiar program a few years ago at Kwantlen ... I wasn't accepted. So I am so thankful that God opened the door for me to go to school once again ...
One of my girlfriends told me not to dress-up or look sexy when I go to school b/c I might be mistaken for a young single student ... ha.ha. ... if only I looked young! But I think I do look my age ... and no worries about dressing-up ... I'll still dress in jogging pants or jeans and a sweatshirt ... I'm all about comfort ... if I could, I'd wear my pajama's to class.
Well, please keep me in your prayers that I may succeed in my classes ...

It's been a little over a year since I've moved ... and I'm still not use to being home alone when my husband is working night shift. The first night is always the roughest ... I'm up late either watching tv, talking to mom back home or surfing the net b/c I just can't sleep without my husband (yes, I know it's sappy) ... plus I hate being home alone at night. I normally average a handful of hours of sleep the first night shift ... but by the second I can sleep a little easier b/c I'm so exhausted from the night before :)
Well, at least i won't have to worry for this month b/c my parents are coming for a few weeks ... so during the night shift I'll have my parents to keep me company! Woo-Hoo!!
I wonder if I'll ever get use to JC working the night shift ... umnn ...

Everyday (well, mostly everyday) I read peoples blogs, and I always have something to blog about, but by the time I get logged in and start typing ... I always think that whatever I had to say is quite boring.
So a couple days ago, I thought ... I have been so blessed in my life to have wonderful family & friends ... why don't I blog about them?
So my first blog will be an ode to my sister-in-law ... "Daryeen".
When my parents and I first met Daryeen ... we all had the same thought ... thank you God!!! :)
One of my many favourite memories with Daryeen was at my Ate Mylene's wedding in California. She got so drunk that she threw up all over my cousins' car and I had to take care of her!! Just kidding ... okay it wasn't really like that ... but my cousins wedding was one of my favourite times with Darleen ... from the deflated air mattress ... to the walking around the reception with wine in our hands ... to the dancing ... and to spending time with her with my cousins ...
Another favourite memory of mine was when Darleen and I taught a catechism class and we poised a question to all our students ... I think it was "What did Jesus do on Holy Thursday?" ... one of our Filipino students (with a Filipino accent) said, "the Last Suffer" ... and one of our other students (caucasion) said, "Suffer? Jesus didn't Suffer" ... our Filipino student meant the Last Supper. We were trying so hard not to laugh that we ended up crying in our silent laughter.
Ah ... the memories :)
I always tell my husband and my mom how thankful I am to have Darleen as my sister-in-law. When I prayed to God for someone for my Kuya, God answered more than my prayer for my Kuya ... but He blessed me with a sister who became one of my closest friends.
There is much that I admire about Darleen such as her thoughtfulness, her love for my Kuya & Isaiah, her strength, her faith, and of course her humor.
In the years that I've known Darleen, I've come to rely on her friendship, her advice, her shoulder to cry on, and most of all her support and love.
I always thank God for blessing my family with Darleen, as she not only blessed our lives with so much joy and love ... but gave my Kuya all the happiness and love that I could ever hope and prayed for ...
I love you Daryeen ...
